System Requirements

What kind of equipment is needed to take this course?

This course contains materials built in Macromedia Flash

Flash Player 6 or higher is required, and may be obtained at www.macromedia.com

The flash player is the most common plug-in and is installed on most systems by default, but not all. If you are accessing the site from a lab and your browser informs you that the flash player is not installed, your first step should be to try a different browser if there is more than one installed on the machine. For instance, it may be that the flash player is installed for Internet Explorer, but not Netscape. If this does not work, and you are unable to install the plug-in yourself because you do not have sufficient priveleges, ask the lab administrator to install the flash player for you. If he or she is unwilling to oblige (which would be strange, since flash is so common on the web) then you must find another lab to take the course, or use your home computer to access the materials.

Flash player is fairly lenient in regards to hardware requirements, but we recommend the following minimums:

  • 128 MB of RAM
  • 56 Kbps modem (audio only)
